About Honeymoon Island
Honeymoon Island State Park is a pristine natural oasis located at the western end of the Dunedin Causeway. Geologically, the island is part of the barrier island system that protects St. Joseph Sound. Its most unique feature is its formation; historically, it was part of a larger island called Hog Island. A massive hurricane in 1921 carved a channel through the land, splitting it into two separate islands: Honeymoon Island and Caladesi Island. The geology of the beach is characterized by its significant shell deposits and unique limestone outcroppings, particularly on the north end.
